Peter Rees was admitted as a solicitor in 1969 and in 1974 became a partner of one of the largest and longest established law firms in Newcastle. He remained with that firm until 1985 when he became the city solicitor for Lake Macquarie Municipal Council which later became Lake Macquarie City Council.
Since 1976, Peter has continuously acted for both Lake Macquarie City Council and its predecessors, as well as for Great Lakes Council and its predecessor.
Peter has also acted for Newcastle City Council, Midcoast Water and Cessnock City Council.
Peter has provided legal services in response to the broad spectrum of problems encountered by his client's, local government and statutory services.
He is a member of a Specialist Local Government Lawyers group that meets regularly in Sydney to discuss changes in legislation and recent court decisions. this network provides him and his clients with updated information on Local Government, Planning Law and environmental issues thus ensuring that his skills are kept up to date with the most recent developments.
Peter's extensive experience in Planning, Local Government and Environmental Law is amply demonstrated by a quick search of the Case Law website which will indicate that in the past six years, Peter represented one of the parties in 26 leading cases in the Land and Environment Court, the Court of Appeal and the High Court.
As the solicitor for Lake Macquarie City Council and for Great Lakes Council since 1976, Peter has given advice on a wide range of matters and it is unlikely that anybody in this region will have the wide expertise that Peter has gained over the last 30 years.
Peter has extensive experience as solicitor for Lake Macquarie and Great Lakes Council in advising Council and other client's on commercial matters and especially the recent legislation dealing with development agreements.
Peter has recently became an Accredited Specialist in Local Government and Planning Law.
