Michael graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws. Upon graduating Michael took up a position with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in Canberra working on policy advice relating to food regulation and safety, and he also undertook research in various areas for projects being conducted in the Bureau of Rural Sciences. Michael has also previously worked extensively in the banking sector including working for several leading Australian banks, and for a German Merchant bank in London.
In 2009 Michael completed his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice through the College of Law in Sydney. Michael’s Practical Legal Training was completed in a firm specialising in Local Government, Planning and Environment law on the Central Coast.
Michael has a strong interest in Local Government, Planning and Environment Law and has gained significant experience in Land and Environment Court matters since commencing with Mallik Rees in 2010. He has worked closely with the firm’s Principal Robin Mallik in several complex matters, representing government, corporate, and private clients, and has been invaluable to the success of those matters. Michael is also the editor of the firm’s planning law newsletter The Expert Report, which is published regularly. Michael strongly advocates the benefits of individuals protecting their financial and physical well-being by effectively executing both a Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardian. Together with an up-to-date Will, Michael believes these documents represent the basic legal instruments that we should all consider essential.
Ensuring a cost effective and efficient resolution of proceedings is Michael’s highest priority. He also understands the pressure that clients feel during legal proceedings and he is determined to put the minds of his clients at ease as much as possible. To achieve this outcome Michael provides accurate, forthright, timely and honest communication to his clients, other legal practitioners and external professionals.
